Expedition Team Members

\"2025

In January 2025, we will retrace the great race of mercy, wherein 20 teams of mushers rescued the children of Nome, Alaska from an outbreak of diphtheria by delivering life saving antitoxin over more than 700 miles of some of the coldest, darkest and cruelest miles in the world. We will be tracing the route with the registered descendants of Leonhard Seppala’s original team of dogs. If you missed the big news about our announced Centennial Seppala Expedition, I\’d encourage you to check out the press release on this website.

Over the next few months we will be sharing biographies of the Seppala Siberian Sleddogs that will be making this trek with us. But today I want to introduce the human expedition team members that will be making this trek, and the roles they will be acting in.

The newest member of the human team is outdoor adventure filmmaker, Caleb Gringas.  Caleb is an all-terrain cinematographer, photographer and ambassador for The North Face Canada.

Born and raised in beautiful Quebec, Caleb loves all things mountains and cameras.

His work shines in challenging conditions, where pain and discomfort are part of the job, and both skill and a positive attitude are a non-negotiable.

Caleb is committed to ensuring no great story goes untold, no matter how difficult it is to document.

While we are excited to have his expert adventure filmmaking skills on the team, Caleb says “I am excited to be part of the team. I\’m also eager to learn more about mushing and arctic travel skills from Jonathan Hayes”

The third member of the team is Jamie Nichols. Nichols is a master heavy diesel mechanic and business owner. He used to tour the country as a pit-crew chief and also had a quite successful career in competitive adventure racing. In addition to all this he is an accomplished backcountry snowmobiler. In the past few years, Jamie has developed a passion for mushing and knows our Seppalas well and by name. Jamie is the ultimate “MacGyver” pinch-hitter. When things break down or you need creative thinking quickly, he is the man. Jaime is the “expedition pit crew” supporting the team’s mechanical and safety needs.. He will also serve as secondary camera man. While Jeremy focuses on filmmaking, Jamie will be making sure he doesn\’t get lost or stuck or broken down.

Jamie Nichols

Jamie Nichols has been bitten by the mushing bug- and could as easily mush a team in this expedition as Eric or myself and is therefore the ultimate all-round asset for this expedition.

I will be serving as the expedition leader. In my past I served as a US Marine Infantryman in a cold-weather unit. I have a BS in Wildlife biology. I have bred and worked Seppala Siberian Sleddogs for nearly 25 years. Most of the dogs on our teams have been bred here in my kennel.
